Dr. M. Samsuri said, “Nusa Putra University has so far organized the Independent Learning program. Nusa Putra University initiated the Independent Learning program before the ministry officially launched the program according to reliable sources.”

“This is tremendously outstanding, therefore, all parties including the rector, government officials, and students, must synergize to perform the independent learning program. Moreover, since 2015 Nusa Putra has organized student exchanges, internships, and research track as a pathway for student accomplishment,” explained the Head of LLDIKTI IV in his presentation of the material.

Additionally, according to Dr. Samsuri, the implementation of independent learning at Nusa Putra mainly for student exchange shows excellent progress, especially for international student exchange.

“This is extraordinary, There are many foreign students, both as student exchange and regular student status here,” he said.

Therefore, he said, “Nusa Putra University needs to keep strengthening aspects of the Independent Learning-Independent Campus (MBKM) curriculum, concerning with the Indonesian Qualifications Framework (KKNI) and Outcome Based Education (OBE).”

Meanwhile, the Rector of Nusa Putra University, Dr. Kurniawan conveyed the targets of the independent learning program at Nusa Putra. These include student exchange and international internships.

“There are currently 16 Nusa Putra internship students in Taiwan and Japan. Additionally, we have also accepted 10 international internship students from Turkey and several other European countries this year,” said the Rector of Nusa Putra University.

The Rector said that in addition, his team kept encouraging the independent learning program to perform well. One of which is by providing the scholarship for the Nusa Putra independent program to students.

“One of the goals of this scholarship is so that students can focus more on carrying out the independent learning-independent campus activities without being burdened with education costs,” he said.

It’s not what is taught, but what students learn.

In addition to presenting the Head of LLDIKTI IV, Prof. Dr. Teddy Mantoro, who once served as Head of the Indonesian Qualifications Framework (KKNI) Outcome Based Education (OBE) Curriculum Advancement Division at Aptikom, gave the lecture at the studium generale as well.

Prof. Dr. Teddy Mantoro

In his presentation, Prof. Teddy Mantoro revealed that within the framework of KKNI and OBE, the focus of learning is not on what is taught but on what students learn. Thus, he explained, “lecturers must also be motivators so that students want to explore more learning materials independently.”

“Motivating students is the key. We can do this by inviting students to do research groups so that later students will get used to implementing knowledge exploration independently, “he said.

Prof. Teddy Mantoro also said, “it is equally essential for lecturers to have self-motivation to improve their education and academic career. According to him, Nusa Putra lecturers have a good opportunity whose university leader truly encourages lecturers to reach the peak of their careers.”

“Moreover, “Nusa Putra provides doctoral scholarships for lecturers to reach the professor holder in the younger age,” he said.

Academicians of Nusa Putra University attended the studium generale concluded by presenting the souvenir, certificates of appreciation for the speakers, and photo sessions.
